1 year into Tower Transit job, ex-SMRT bus driver of 16 years rewarded with free London trip

Well-deserved.

For 16 years, Vijaya Kumaran provided excellent customer service to passengers on Bus 106, which travels from Bukit Batok to the Central Business District.

He is so wel-known in that area that he started to see Bukit Batok as "his family".

And his friendliness and professionalism endeared him to the public, who affectionately calls him "Kumar".

In May 2016, after 16 years of excellent service, Kumaran switched over to the new public transport player in Singapore, Tower Transit from SMRT where he worked for 16 years previously.

Over at Tower Transit, he continued the drive and passion he had shown in SMRT -- where more than 60 commuters wrote in to commend his service. This is more than double the number of commendations other drivers receive.

Less than eight months later, during his company's awards night (yes, they have an awards night, cool), he was presented with a fitting reward for his excellent performance: Two return tickets to London (where Tower Transit is from), and five nights accommodation worth S$4,500.
