Passengers were reported to have first heard a loud sound on board Flight TZ001.

This was followed by sparks emerging from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner engine on the plane's right wing.

Fire services were requested by the flight crew to be on stand-by upon landing.

Scoot has since said the incident is under investigation and that the aircraft landed on schedule, even as the right engine was shut down. It has also been confirmed that there was no engine fire.

Scoot and Tigerair in the news

This latest incident appears to have come at a bad time for the local carrier.

Budget Aviation Holdings Pte Ltd, which owns and manages Singapore Airlines’ low-frills carriers, said Scoot and Tigerair intend to pursue a single brand and operating licence.

However, Tigerair was in the news in early November as they experienced three separate incidents in four days, a day after it was announced on Nov. 4 that Tigerair will come under the name of its budget carrier sibling, Scoot, by the end of next year.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, a bird struck a flight from Hong Kong forcing it to turn back.

On Monday, Nov. 7, passengers experienced a five-hour delay at Changi Airport due to two switches in aircraft.

On Tuesday, Nov. 8, a Tigerair flight departing Macau for Singapore had to be turned back.

The integration between Scoot and Tigerair is expected to be realised between the middle and end of 2017.

The integration will mean Tigerair and Scoot will have merged flight scheduling and connections, and share a common website, contact centre and check-in counters.
