America is great again?

Richard B. Spencer, who claims to have founded the alt-right movement, gave a speech this week that led his audience to give the Nazi salute and shout "Hail Trump".

He was giving the speech at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., for the annual conference of the National Policy Institute (NPI).

The NPI, according to its website, is an "independent organization dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States, and around the world."

Wikipedia's described NPI as a white nationalist think tank.

In a recording of the speech, Spencer described the American mainstream media as "Lügenpresse" -- the term means "lying press" and was historically used by Nazis against media that criticised it.

Spencer went on to proclaim that “America was until this past generation a white country designed for ourselves and our posterity... It is our creation, it is our inheritance, and it belongs to us.”

Which prompted the audience to give him a standing ovation with some of them giving him the Nazi salute.

Here's a video of the speech released by The Atlantic:

Spencer claims to have founded the alt-right movement, although the definition of alt-right is still being debated. Many have agreed, though, that white nationalism is fundamental to the alt-right movement and it opposes immigration, multiculturalism and rejects mainstream conservatism.

One of the alt-right's most prominent media platform is Breitbart News.

Stephen Bannon, executive chairman of Breitbart, was Trump's campaign chairman during the elections. After being elected, Trump named Bannon as his senior adviser and chief strategist.
