According to American website, a youtiao is not a youtiao, it is a Chinese doughnut

Delicious no matter what it's called.

It is sometimes tough to translate vastly different food names from far flung continents for your audience.

The new surge of popularity of oriental cuisine in the west have resulted in sometimes quirky translations for a western audience.

Take this food that was featured on Insider Desert.

Now you might be thinking, that is a youtiao.

Well, you would be absolutely wrong. That is a Chinese doughnut, at least according to Insider's newest video.

Which is basically a feature on this.

The thought process for equating youtiao to a doughnut, while odd at first, makes some sort of sense.

Both are basically fried dough, and goes well with being dipped in hot beverages.

Still, many were perplexed with that particular comparison.

With one American finding a distinct difference in shape between their regular donuts, and these Chinese doughnuts.
