Asian parents are known to be rather high octane when it comes to education, and grades.
The stereotypes of the Tiger mum, where overtly dramatic chinese mothers living in the west, push their offspring to keep doing better in their studies, often to shock and horror from the native ang mohs.
Singapore, thankfully, does not have that level of ostentatious tiger parenting.
However, that does not mean we don't have expectations.

A tweet showing a text conversation between a boy and his mother reminds us exactly what expectations are like in Singapore.
The boy in this picture got an 88 for his test.
Which is an A.
Here is the mom's response.
Now, in the mom's defence, that is technically true.
88, while an amazing score, could mathematically be improved to 100%.
So, no harm, no foul.
And, perhaps because of this high standard, the boy did indeed manage to get full marks on a future assignment.
Hurrah, yes?
