In India, PM Lee Hsien Loong declines VIP motorcade, opts for bus ride to hotel instead

Who needs a flashy motorcade when you've got a roBUSt ride?

PM Lee Hsien Loong is currently on a working visit to India, arriving on the night of October 3rd at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Given that he's the PM, the tradition would be to have him ferried to his hotel with an entourage of motorcycles and cars (a.k.a the VIP motorcade, similar to what you have seen on National Day parades).

PM Lee, however, being the cool person that he is, opted instead for a chartered bus to take him there.

It seems that other than the bodyguards and personnel that accompanied him onto the bus, there was hardly any fuss or fanfare, and Indian netizens applauded his choice.

By the way, this is in all fairness a pretty typical thing for PM to do. He's pretty well known, as far as world leaders go, for travelling with a far smaller contingent of staffers, and on commercial planes instead of a private jet, for instance.

Travelling aside, we also know he does occasionally queue for his own hawker food.

So yes, this is just one of the ways PM Lee behaves like a typical, cost-saving Singaporean, even while at work. Kudos.
