Bukit Timah Nature Reserve was fully reopened to the public on Saturday, Oct 22.

This was after it was closed for more than two years in September 2014 for restoration works.

The reserve's hiking trails are now fully open seven days a week. Earlier this year in April, it was partially reopened to visitors on weekends.

Some of the restoration works include the building of boardwalks, rope handrails and non-slip trail surfaces.

Weak slopes were also reinforced with netting and by planting saplings of native species salvaged from other parts of the reserve.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is an Asean Heritage Park. It was first established as a nature reserve in 1883.

Annual visitorship is 400,000 annually.

Before restoration works were carried out, heavy use caused many parts of the trail network to be badly eroded. For example, visitors had to walk around muddy sections of the trail.

To engage the public, a new exhibition hall has been set up at the reserve's visitor centre at Hindhede Drive.
