Shanmugam writes a letter to complain about the rude and mocking behaviour of a resident

Minister writes a FB post, another Minister comments on it.

A Nee Soon resident has done what the Workers' Party (WP) team failed to do -- make Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam angry.

In a Meet-The-People Session letter Facebook note, Shanmugam expressed his frustration with a Nee Soon GRC resident, who was "rude and sarcastic" in his attitude towards the Minister, the People's Association staff, the town council staff and the grassroots volunteers.

The resident complained to Shanmugam about the rat problem near his estate. The resident subsequently proposed to meet the town council staff and volunteers on Sunday at 7.30am but stood them up. He has yet to provide a proper response about his conduct.

Below is an example of an email from the resident to Shanmugam:

“Thank you for making wonderful visit (sic) almost every week at Chong Pang Blk 107. Maybe you have been too busy meeting the residents and grassroot members are also blinded by the job to served (sic) as much every week on non essential matters. I would like to share a little secret with you…you have a new family in our neighbourhood and maybe you and your grassroot team would like to meet them personally. I have uploaded a video to introduce themselves to you and maybe you could drop by when you are around next week.’’

Moral of the story?

Let's be considerate to each other, especially the public officers who are trying their best to deal with thousands of us daily, helping us to resolve various issues.

The point of Shanmugam's Facebook post?

Shanmugam observed that "most residents are helpful and understanding", so we are not sure what to make of his Facebook post.

- Do we highlight his note as a complaint letter for his MP to address?

- Do we share his Facebook note so that other Singaporeans will treat public officers with respect?

- Do we ask the netizens from Hardwarezone forum to find the guy?

If Shanmugam is looking for a peer support group, he has immediately found one member in Tan Chuan-Jin, the Minister for Social and Family Development.

PS: Dear Minister Shanmugam's Facebook administrators, it will be a more appropriate time to share this post during Public Service Week to thank the efforts of the public servants.
