Primary school teacher in S'pore made students kneel, called one of them a 'disgrace to God'

Rule #1 of teaching: do not call your students "retarded monkeys".

For better or worse, a teacher can serve as the foundation in which a student view the concept of learning and school. This story is not one for the better.

Daphne Ling, a blogger who runs the site Mother Inc, recently published a blog post detailing transgressions carried out by a teacher on her friend's children, who also goes to the same school as her own children.

The incidents allegedly took place in Gongshang Primary School.

Here is a list of the abuse that the teacher apparently inflicted on some students.

1. Made them kneel

According to Ling, the teacher made students kneel in front of the class.

On 2 separate occasions, students who were difficult in her class were made to come to the front and kneel down next to her desk in full view of the entire class as punishment.

2. Called them names

Ling also mentioned how the teacher verbally abused two children with poor eyesight.

When they tried to go to the front of the class to get a better view of the board, they were rebuffed with taunts of getting new specs, and on one occasion, even insinuated the student was too poor to get a new one.

“Go back to your seat! Go get new specs, you don’t have money to buy one?!”

The blog also revealed that students who forgot to bring their science textbooks two days in a row were called "retarded monkeys".

3. Threw things at them

The teacher in question allegedly threw a host of items, including staplers, water bottles and markers.

One of the markers apparently even hit a child on the lip.

How could a teacher hit a student with a projectile and still not be fired? Here was her supposed defence.

"On this matter, upon investigation, her defence was that the marker slipped out of her hand and accidentally hit the child in the face."

4. Told a Christian child that he was a disgrace to God

According to the blog, this is what the teacher told him.

On several occasions, she publicly called out a student whom she knew was a Christian, told him that he was a disgrace to God and should be ashamed of himself.

The child, understandably so, took this extremely hard.

What’s even more heartbreaking is that this kid went home after hearing this, held his Bible, went to the store room alone and sobbed. This makes me so sad and so mad at the same time.

Threatened them

Now if you're wondering why more students have not spoken up against the teacher, it might have something to do with her threats against them.

This is what she purportedly told her students.

“I KNOW SOMEBODY COMPLAINED ABOUT ME. I WILL NOT SAY YOUR NAME BUT I KNOW WHO IT IS…”

Actions against the teacher

Ling claims the teacher has been merely reassigned to another class, to teach non-core subjects, such as art and social studies.

However, when we reached out to the school for a comment, George Cheah, the vice-principal, told Mothership.sg that "the teacher has been relieved of her teaching duties while investigations are ongoing".

We will not name the teacher as investigations are still ongoing.
