You might have seen her doing the acting thing in Channel 5 dramas or Netflix’s Marco Polo, but you probably remember Oon Shu An more for all her truisms.

For instance, you must recall her hard-hitting open letter to a certain Anton Casey.

Or this make-up-tutorial-turned-battlecry-against-the-beauty-industry video.

Even BuzzFeed covered it. So she must be the purveyor of hard truths.

Now the 29-year-old actress is back with another thought-provoking video that is sure to get you thinking.

Check it out here:

Mind blown? You are not alone. But just in case you didn’t feel the tsunami of emotions or the uncontrollable zinging of brain matter, we took the liberty to deconstruct her thoughts and give our take.

“Sometimes I wish the gates were smaller.”

What she really means: Our minds are too narrow. Even the trains open their gates for 10 seconds to let passengers in okay?

“The Asian girl who speaks good English. Who must be good at Maths.”

What she really means: Yeah, you make sure people know you are Singaporean Chinese and frown when mistakenly referred to as “Chinese Chinese”, but have no qualms about making similar assumptions about others. Double-standard leh...

“Go back home.”

What she really means: We forget that our forefathers also went through that same voyage. Indeed, they were the original foreign talents. So are we disparaging our own forefathers when we harbour that go-back-home mentality?

“We act like gods marching through their markets.”

What she really means: Singaporeans take their bargaining way too seriously, haggling over prices just because. By the way, a discount of 10 baht is 40 cents. #justsaying

“All we can see are bodies taking up space.”

What she really means: At the end of the day, this narrow-mindedness is a ticking time bomb. Before we get to “chibabom!”, c’mon guys, we need to stop the hate and embrace the now.

“Is toiling for the land and being respectful of its future enough for anyone to call this their second home?”

What she really means: You think about it.

We shall leave you with these wise words from U2.
