Woman really mad at CPF for truncating her daughter's name

Partly because CPF itself had previously insisted naming conventions had to be followed.

Belmont Lay | May 04, 2016, 06:01 PM

Long story short: A woman has taken to Facebook on May 3, 2016, to vent her frustration at the Central Provident Fund (CPF) board.

This was after the CPF truncated the full name of her daughter from "Syafiah Aniqah Binte Zainal Ariffin" to "S Aniqah Bt Z Ariffin".

The woman's frustration stems from the fact that in 2014, as a result of filling in her own name as "BINTE" instead of "BTE", her online claim to settle her late father's CPF funds was rejected and she had to go through the process of filing the claim all over again.

And according to the woman, there appears to be a double standard in naming conventions as her Chinese friend's name is H******** A*** K*** W****, which is really long, appears in full.

The gripe, therefore, is that the woman does not want the same problem she faced to happen to her daughter in the future, as a result of naming conventions that are not followed or names that are not spelled according to records.

CPF called her to clarify but...

To make matters worse, a employee from CPF called the woman a day after her post went up and attempted to explain the board's position.

The woman hung up eventually as she claimed the CPF staff did not even attempt to verify with her her identity to ensure the board was speaking to the right person and she would rather have the issue settled in black and white over email.

Post 1:

Dear CPF Board

When my late Dad passed away in 2014, u sent me a notification on the arrangements of his $$$.

My online claim was rejected and delayed by months just because i submitted my name wf a BINTE instead of BTE as in NRIC. When i made the necessary call to explain that BINTE is also BTE, yr officer insisted that all legal issues shd be as in NRIC. Ok fine....

My eldest girl who has just started teaching, earned her 1st CPF recently. I am asking you now. Why on earth is her name spelt just as "S Aniqah Bt Z Ariffin"? Shouldnt her name be "Syafiah Aniqah Binte Zainal Ariffin" as in her LEGAL SINGAPORE NRIC???

What made u right to change her name?? I believe most Sporeans know Bte=Binte BUT nobody will know what that S meant for my girl's name!!

S=Siti? S=Sharifah? S=Sexy?

Her BT= Bukit Timah?

Z=Zorro?

Pls do not gv a template reply that my girl's name is too long. I have checked wf a Chinese fren bfr i put this up. Her name is "H******** A*** K*** W**** and u have it perfectly fine.

Do u change a "Tan Ah Teck" into a "T Ah Teck" ??? T=T-rex? T=Transformers?

I am verrrrrry upset that the Board is doing this cos i painfully rmmbr how it was when you all made me apply all over again fr my late Dad's CPF thingy.

What will my girl go thru in future if i choose to keep mum abt this now?? Wouldn she face a prob to claim $$$ when im gone??

Who are you all to change her name as in NRIC when it comes to legal issues?? We are NOT talking abt a nickname in FB or what.. we are talking abt HER MONEY deducted fm her salary !! It is HER rights !!

If you think this is a petty issue, look back into yr files on how you rejected my name when BINTE was written instead of BTE... NOW, my girl's name is TOTALLY changed..

See you when i step in your office. You're wasting anthr day of my leave just like when you all did last year..

Post 2:

To The Malay Officer fm CPF who PM me

I do not want to shame you here for being kind with an 'explanation' without the Board's knowledge.

Even wf yr lengthy words, i shall extract my fave part ok. You told me in this exact words, “If I am not wrong, your daughter's name could be abbreviated by the Board because her HR submitted to the Board as such” Tell you honestly, you are just making me moreeeeee pissed off wf such statement.

1)You are an employee yes but NOT the one who is supposed to answer my issue.

2)Your words are sooooo against the Board's professionalism. “If I am not wrong...” that words simply mean you DO NOT even know what is right to answer me.

3)You are indirectly pushing the blame to my daughter's HR?????

4)Let me talk moreeeee sense to you just in case u need it... EVEN IF my girl's HR submitted an abbreviated name, how on earth the Board accepted her monies when it is not the right one?? U all took the money in still !! Shdn you clarify n get the right name bfr accepting the money???

5)You mentioned “sad to say the Officers are just doing their responsibilities in protecting the citizen's monies. I am telling you NOW, I am NOT SAD to say that i am NOW protecting MY DAUGHTER'S rights as it is MY responsibility!!

6)Please learn the protocols and details bfr you even think of sending me the PM.

To those who shared my update, thanks yeah.. A senior Officer called me. And this was my conversation.

Officer(O): Hi Miss Siti Norsheila

Me(M): Yes

O: I am so&so fm CPF Board. Can u spare some time for me to speak to u?

M: For?

O: On your issues you uploaded in FB abt the Board.

M: Where did u get my number?

O: Oh we have all details in our system.

M: (already pissed off) You can track me down, have my hp to call & U didnt know my daughter's full name?

O: Oh let me explain.

M: (I interupted her) Mdm, you have my hp, i believe you SUREEEELY hv my email address. Send me a mail insted of asking me to listen to u. (Becos I know calls are recorded but NO proof in balck/white, and I continued telling her straight) Mdm, can u also pls tell all yr CPF staff to STOP sending me Pms in FB.

I just hung up....

To that Mdm who called me, Plssss listen back to our recorded msg. DID U EVEN ASK my NRIC number for verification if you were really speaking to me????????????????????? Now CPF Board owes me a BIGGER explanation !!!

I rest my case till i step into CPF Board's office.
