Lee Wei Ling, daughter of Lee Kuan Yew and sister of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, has taken to Facebook to refute any suggestion that she signed a petition asking to stop the attacks on Chee Soon Juan, Singapore Democratic Party's Bukit Batok by-election candidate.

In the strongly-worded post, Lee wrote:

It has been said that I have signed a petition asking to stop attacking Chee Soon Juan's character. This is false, I have a very poor opinion of Dr Chee, and do not think he is fit to be in Parliament . The man has not changed at all, though he is now posing as a changed man, using his family.

The origins of claim that Lee signed the petition can be traced back to this link, where it shows the name "Dr Lee Wei Ling" used to sign the petition.

However, this open petition can be signed by virtually anyone going by any name.

The Independent subsequently publicised a story that a "Dr Lee Wei Ling" had signed the petition and juxtaposed her photo with Chee, in so doing creating the impression that the "Dr Lee Wei Ling" is PM Lee's sister.

Anyway, we found this statement on Change.org too.

Dear Independent.sg, here is a story idea you can consider: Petition to PM Lee to stop attacks on Chee: A Lee Hsien Loong signed it.
