Chelsea Flower Show judge names Singapore Botanic Gardens among top 10 best gardens in the world

Not the Chelsea Flower Show.

The Chelsea Flower Show is a five-day show held by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the United Kingdom. Its Wikipedia page pegs it as "the most famous flower show in the United Kingdom, and perhaps in the world."

So imagine this writer's excitement when he came across the following The Telegraph article - Chelsea Flower Show judge chooses the 10 best gardens in the world - which names our Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) among the 10 best in the world.

Alas, the judge did not pick our beloved UNESCO World Heritage Site to win any awards at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The Chelsea Flower Show judge, Christopher Bailes, happened to give his personal take on the 10 best gardens of the world and got published by The Telegraph.

This is what he had to say about SBG:

Singapore Botanic Gardens offers a real taste of the tropics, with collections of economic plants, gingers and spices set in a charming colonial era landscape dating back to its founding as a leisure garden and public park (where the locals can be observed doing tai chi in quieter areas). As a committed orchidophile, the vibrant National Orchid Garden is high on the list of attractions for me, and among other rich ornamental plantings there is a remarkable collection of colourful bromeliads. As an antidote to all this colour, the garden still preserves a piece of Singapore’s original rain forest.

Oh well. We can't win them all. Why don't we watch this lovely drone-shot video of SBG in the comfort of our air-conditioned office instead:

The video was launched today perhaps to highlight the fact that SBG is holding its Heritage Week from May 28 to June 5.

Visitors to the gardens can expect guided tours, bazaars, carnivals and performances over two weekends.
