Legendary singer Prince has passed away at the age of 57 at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota.

Police reportedly responded to an emergency around 9:30am.

His passing has been confirmed via multiple sources, including the BBC and The Associated Press.

Just last week, Prince was still performing live. He had to be hospitalised after his plane made an emergency landing in Illinois following a show in Atlanta.

At the time, his team released a statement that he had been battling the flu.

Prince has had to cancel multiple shows recently due to health concerns but he was seen riding his bike around his neighborhood over the weekend.

There has not been any word regarding the cause of death.

His impact on music and beyond was a result of his genre-defying career, where he hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart five times.

His string of hits include, 1999, Purple Rain, Sign o' the Times and many more that shaped generations of music.
