A woman unexpectedly delivered a baby boy on a Jetstar plane on a flight from Singapore to Myanmar.

The incident occurred on April 22, 2016, onboard 3K583.

In a tribute to the crew and the airline, the mother, whose family name, coincidentally, is Star, named her baby boy, Saw Jet Star.

The mother wanted the baby's name to salute Mr Saw Ler Htu, a Customer Service Manager from the cabin crew who "exercised utmost care and concern for the passenger, calling for medical assistance on board the aircraft when required," Jetstar Asia wrote in a Facebook post.

There were three doctors onboard the three-hour journey who were able to help deliver the six pound, seven ounce infant (about 2.9kg).

The mother and newborn went to a Yangon hospital after getting off the plane.

This is the first baby to be delivered on a Jetstar Asia flight.

Jetstar Asia said that it will be offering S$1,000 worth of baby supplies to the family.

The airline allows women to travel up to the end of their 40th week into their pregnancy for a flight less than four hours, but must bring specific documentation from a doctor if choosing to fly at 28 weeks or more.
