What would you do if you had a new refrigerator and realised it was not propped up high enough?

Two men working in a restaurant in the Jalan Besar area purportedly decided to head over to a nearby condominium and help themselves to some bricks under flower pots.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the management of the Parc Somme condominium claimed that the bricks were stolen by two men on Apr. 30, 2023, around 6pm — and the act was caught on CCTV.

"Acting suspiciously" around condo

The condo management’s spokesperson, Chen (transliteration), told Shin Min that she was doing a daily routine check of CCTV footage at around 7:30pm when she spotted the two men acting suspicious.

She described them to be looking as if they were searching for an object on the ground.

Subsequently, one man pointed to the flower pots and alerted the other man.

They walked away momentarily before returning to the flower pots and removing the bricks.

CCTV caught the act

According to a clip of the CCTV footage she uploaded on YouTube, the first man walked to the flower pots with two bricks.

He took out two bricks from under the flower pots and appeared to compare their sizes.

He then put one brick he brought with him back under the flower pots, before pulling out another brick from another flower pot.

The two men then left with four bricks — a brick in each hand.

Condo management staff confronted them & called police

Chen told Shin Min she recognised the two men from a nearby restaurant and decided to head over and confront them.

She claimed the duo rebutted her and asked if she was a condominium resident.

Chen also claimed that after she reported the case to the police, the duo returned the bricks.

The Singapore Police Force confirmed with Mothership that a report was lodged, and they are investigating.

Restaurant owner claimed she thought the bricks were from the roadside

The Shin Min reporter approached the restaurant owner, who said her establishment had recently opened for business and has a new fridge.

However, she found the fridge perched too low, and the two employees then went to search for bricks to prop it up.

She claimed she had thought they found the bricks by the roadside and they did not belong to anyone.

She said when the police arrived, the duo immediately returned the bricks to where they they had taken them from.
