The three people who were killed in a camper van accident in New Zealand on April 17, 2023 have been identified by authorities there as Singaporeans in their early 20s.
News of the accident and the identities of those involved were reported by NZ Herald on May 9.
The accident took place on April 17 at about 1am.
New Zealand police revealed that the three people killed in the crash were all from Singapore.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Te Moana Rd, near the small South Island town of Geraldine.
Sherwin Chong Shi Yun and Xinyue Yang, both aged 21, and Jia Jun Vincent Lim, aged 24, were identified as the camper van occupants.
The rental camper van hit a barrier at the intersection of Te Moana Rd at State Highway 79 before catching fire, it was reported.
No others were involved in the accident, Star News added.
NZ Herald further reported that it understands that one of those people in the camper van called for emergency services after the crash.
A total of 11 volunteer firefighters responded on the morning of the crash, NZ Herald also reported.
Those who attended to the scene ranged in experience, the report said, with all 11 of them meeting the following evening to debrief the events of the crash, with individual counselling offered to each firefighter through Fire and Emergency NZ.
The chief of the volunteer fire brigade said: “It’s one of the more severe ones. You don’t know a lot until you arrive at the scene.”
Previous camper van accident in New Zealand

Rakaia is a town about 57km south of Christchurch.
The rented camper van collided with an oncoming car.
