A Scoot flight from Bangkok, Thailand to Singapore was forced to return to the Thai capital on May 8.

Flight TR605, which had left Bangkok at 3:56pm local time (4:56pm Singapore time) was initially scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 7:15pm.

It turned back due to a technical fault.

Scoot apologised for the disruption and inconvenience caused.

Scoot told Mothership via a spokesperson that a decision was made to return to Bangkok as a safety precaution.

There were 230 passengers and eight crew members on board the aircraft.

The plane landed back in Bangkok at 5:09pm local time.

Passengers were then given refreshments.

Mothership understands that the "smoke" seen in images circulating online was not related to the delay.

The "smoke" present in the cabin is a natural phenomenon of mist forming in the cabin due to the condensation of hot and humid air outside the aircraft as it gets pulled into the relatively cooler dry air of the cabin via the aircraft’s air conditioning unit.

This happens more frequently in locations where there is relatively hotter temperatures such as Bangkok, Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries.

The Airbus A321 had to make loops near southern Thailand before heading back to Bangkok, Flightradar24 showed.

The aircraft subsequently departed Suvarnabhumi Airport at 7:27pm local time after the fault was rectified.

It arrived in Singapore at 10:26pm.

“The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority. We will continue to provide assistance to our customers where possible,” the airline said.
