People in Singapore have a thing for branded bags.

So much so it is not difficult to spot these luxury items paraded around on any given day in town, such as along Orchard Road.

Recognising the exact model and hazarding a guess as to how much each bag costs, is clearly an interesting proposition.

Which was why a TikTok by @thegestreon.com has clocked about 435,000 views.

The 31-second clip identified 17 branded bags seen randomly in Orchard and had their ballpark price tags -- in US dollars -- slapped on them.

Chanel and Hermès appeared to be top picks among people here, with one S$8,740 Chanel bag left on a table in public almost unattended, eliciting comments that Singapore is a safe country.

Some commenters who responded to the video quipped that they would even have to think twice about paying S$0.10 for a plastic bag these days.

Other commenters also suggested that it is not so much how people carry themselves with what they wear, but what they literally carry with them these days that hint at their net worth.
