National runner Soh Rui Yong has clinched a silver in the men's 10,000m at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
This is his first time competing in the event at the SEA Games.
Soh, who finished fourth in the men's 5,000m on Tuesday, started off his second and last race at this year's Games in the middle of the pack.
Although he lagged behind for portions of the race, he visibly increased his pace in the last few laps.
While he was unable to catch up to the leader, Rikki Marthin Luther Simbolon from Indonesia, Soh managed to secure the runner-up position.
He is also the national record holder with a timing of 31 min 12.05 sec, set at the England Athletics 10,000m Championships in April last year.
Achieved his goal of getting a medal
Prior to this edition of the SEA Games, Soh had not competed in a major competition for more than five years, owing to disputes with the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and other parties.
He reportedly only had six weeks to train after the SNOC gave him the green light in March to participate in this year's SEA Games.
He also previously stated that winning a medal in either of his events in May would be "the best [he] could hope for".
