A lat pulldown machine at Virgin Active's Tanjong Pagar branch toppled over when someone was using it on Wednesday (Apr. 5).

Gym user, Thomas, who witnessed the incident, tipped Mothership off about the incident and claimed that he saw the machine almost crush the user.

Bolts holding machine were allegedly rusty

Thomas said the incident happened between 7:30am and 7.45am.

According to him, the person was using the machine when it toppled "a full 90 degrees to the ground", narrowly missing the user.

When the machine fell to the ground, it made a loud noise that "shook" the gym, he claimed.

He alleged that the bolts holding the machine to the ground had given way and looked rusty.

A photo he shared with Mothership showed that the machine and the area next to it were subsequently cordoned off.

A sign was also placed in front of the machine, saying it was undergoing maintenance.
