A hawker in Toa Payoh is offering 140 free cups of soya milk to seniors every Wednesday and Thursday.
The kind gesture was recently posted on Facebook by Swee Fong Wong, who revealed the generous hawker stall to be Wang Mei Soy Bean, located at Block 210 at Lorong 8 Toa Payoh.
In the post, a sign could be seen pasted beneath the shop sign, which read, "[On] Wednesday and Thursday, seniors [can receive a cup of soya milk] for free. While stock lasts."
At the bottom of the sign, it also indicated that the giveaway was sponsored by L-QUBE Pte Ltd, a local-based energy-saving solutions provider.
An initiative to give back to society
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the manager of L-QUBE, Victor Low, shared that he first proposed the idea of offering free drinks to seniors to the stall owner, Chen Yuantong (hanyu pinyin), in July 2021.

At the time, the pandemic was still in an acute phase, and Low wanted to give back to society by helping low-income seniors.
Having noticed that elderly customers typically enjoy drinking soya milk, Chen subsequently suggested that they give out the drink for free.
Every month, Low would sponsor approximately S$1,000 for the initiative.
He also told Shin Min that he and Chen have actually been friends for more than 20 years after first meeting each other in secondary school.
