Travelling from S'pore to JB takes 2-6 hours on Good Friday

Some were lucky, others less so.

It's another long weekend in Singapore, which can only mean one thing.

Large crowds and snaking queues have once again gathered at the Singapore-Johor Bahru land border checkpoints, as regular motorists and holiday hopefuls alike try to cross into Malaysia.

According to the an update posted by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) on Apr. 7 at 10:05am, heavy traffic is observed at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.

A check on the Beat the Jam app at 11am showed that motorists crossing into Johor from Woodlands (the Causeway) can expect to take three to four hours, while those crossing via Tuas (Second Link) can expect to take four to six hours.

ICA added that delays are expected and travellers are advised to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.

2.5 hour travel time for some on Apr. 6

One Mothership reader who travelled from Singapore to Johor Bahru via public transport on Apr. 6 shared that the journey had actually been faster than expected.

The entire journey from Kranji to Johor Bahru had only taken about 2.5 hours.

According to the Mothership reader, the segment that had taken up the most travel time was that from Kranji MRT to Woodlands.

Going through the Johor Bahru customs via the automated gates had been relatively fast thereafter, and it took about 25 minutes.

Another Facebook user who had begun her journey on Apr. 6 shared that her journey from Kranji MRT to Johor Bahru had been similarly fast, taking only about one hour and 20 minutes.

In her post, she wrote that she had started walking from Kranji MRT at 10:03pm, and arrived at the Woodlands checkpoint at 10:33pm. She was able to cross the bridge by 10:47pm thereafter, and arrived at JB at 11:10pm, before successfully getting her passport stamped at the JB customs by 11:25pm.

Other travellers stuck in up to six hour jam

However, other travellers were less lucky, with some Facebook users reporting that their journey had taken up to six hours.

One motorist shared that for him, the entire journey had taken three hours and 20 minutes, "breaking his previous record" from crossing the land checkpoint on Apr. 1, 2022.

Another motorist who crossed at the Woodlands checkpoint also shared that he had been stuck in a jam for five hours.

Latest update by ICA

The latest update at 11:42am on ICA's Facebook estimates that it will take two to five hours to get to Johor Bahru from Singapore via either Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints.
