Singapore's largest and newest funeral parlour recently opened at Woodlands Industrial Park.
Woodlands Memorial describes itself as a "fully-integrated funeral facility", and comprises wake halls, a columbarium, and a variety of other amenities.
The 10,000sqm, nine-storey complex includes 14 non-denominational wake halls of different sizes that can hold between 60 to 1,000 people, reported The Straits Times (ST).
The halls include rest areas for families holding vigils, and each come with a living space, bedroom, toilet and a shower.
ST reported that the funeral parlours will occupy three floors, while two floors will be dedicated to the columbarium.
A multi-storey carpark will take up another three floors.
The integrated complex will also hold a flower shop and cafe.
Air-conditioned columbarium in garden
Woodlands Memorial will also feature an air-conditioned columbarium in a garden, dubbed the Sky Park and Sky Haven Memorial.
According to its website, the "serene and peaceful setting" provides a "dignified and tranquil" resting space for the deceased.
This will be ready in June 2023, reported ST.
Additionally, the roof of Woodlands Memorial is covered in solar panels capable of generating 168,000 kilowatt-hours of energy.
This is enough to power 866 four-room Housing Development Board (HDB) households for a year, ST wrote.
Woodlands Memorial is the first of four funeral parlour complexes to be launched over the next decade or so.
These will help meet the demands of Singapore's ageing population, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in 2020.
