A recycling truck driver scrambled to unload garbage which caught fire inside the truck near Block 324 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 on Saturday (Apr. 15).

He drove to an open area and offloaded the burning trash, subsequently calling the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for help.

Responding to Mothership's queries, SCDF stated that they were alerted to a fire at around 9:15am on Apr. 15.

Photos sent to Shin Min Daily News by readers showed a large pile of flammables on the ground, engulfed in flames against the backdrop of a yellow block of flats.

Flames were also spotted inside the blue recycling truck.

A fire truck was seen in the background, with firefighters responding to the fire.

SCDF said that they extinguished the fire using two water jets.

An eyewitness who lived in the area told Shin Min Daily News that she had heard two explosions in the distance.

She later received a text from her sons, telling her to close the windows to prevent smoke from entering the house.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
