Raw chicken a delicacy in some cultures
Despite apphrehension, some cultures do enjoy raw chicken as a delicacy.
In Japan, chicken sashimi or torisashi is a dish particularly enjoyed in Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures in Kyushu.
According to Wa-Shoku, a Japanese website aiming to share information on the nation's food and job recruitment to Asean countries, these chickens are sourced strategically as only the freshest and high-quality meat are selected to avoid bacterial contamination.
According to a Twitter user, you can purchase chicken sashimi for 400 yen (S$3.98) at a supermarket.

But is it safe to consume raw chicken?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services, eating raw or undercooked chicken can lead to food poisoning.
"Chicken can be a nutritious choice, but raw chicken is often contaminated with Campylobacter bacteria and sometimes with Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens bacteria.
If you eat undercooked chicken, you can get a foodborne illness, also called food poisoning. You can also get sick if you eat other foods or beverages that are contaminated by raw chicken or its juices."
