Meta Singapore has started its second and latest round of mass layoffs on the evening of Apr. 19.
A Xiaohongshu user, who goes by the online pseudonym, Huanlema, posted a screenshot of the notification email on the social media platform on Wednesday 10pm.
In the caption, Huanlema added that while she was laid off, her manager received an offer to be converted to an individual contributor.
Just one month ago, Huanlema claimed she had been promoted to the level of E6, which roughly translates to senior software engineer at Meta.
Details of the notification email
The email confirmed that the layoff was part of the restructuring plan shared by Meta's chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg in March.
In his announcement, Zuckerberg said the company expects to reduce its team size by around 10,000 people globally in an effort to emerge as a "better technology company" and improve its financial performance in a "difficult environment".
In the email, the company also thanked affected employees for their contribution to Meta and claimed it had created a dedicated site for them to access information and resources that would address their questions.
The full text of the abridged email is as follows:
Hello [recipient],
In March, Mark shared his vision for Meta's future, which included becoming a leading AR technology company, and improving our business performance over the long term. Deliverying on this means making the difficult decision to lay off talented colleagues who have been part of our success.
Unfourtunately, you've been included in today's layoff.
First and foremost, you have our deepst gratitude for all you've contributed to Meta. You've been an important part of the company's journey.
We understand you will have questions. We created a dedicated site called the Alumni Portal, where you can access information and resources to assist you.
More jobs expected to be axed in May
In response to Mothership's queries, Meta Singapore said it has "nothing more to share at this point" beyond what has already been announced by Zuckerberg in March via a post on Meta's newsroom, in which he included a timeline on restructuring.
According to the timeline provided by the social media giant, the current wave of layoffs would affect tech roles, such as software engineers like Huanlema.
Employees under Meta's business groups, such as human resources, will know whether their jobs are affected in late May.
In November 2022, Meta laid off at least 10 employees in its Singapore office and slashed some 11,000 jobs worldwide.
The company, which will announce its first quarter results on Apr. 26, is expected to benefit from a modest pickup in the digital advertising market and regulatory pressure on TikTok, its chief rival, according to Reuters.
