A video showing a man kneeling on the pavement with a bouquet of flowers in Sichuan, China, has recently gone viral on Weibo.

Speaking to Jiupai News, a witness said the man had been kneeling for around 20 hours from 1pm on Mar. 28 to 10am on Mar. 29.

During this period, the witness, along with a number of passers-by and police officers, tried to persuade the man to get up from his knees.

The witness said it was unnecessary for him to continue kneeling in public if the other party had clearly indicated her unwillingness to meet him.

However, the man refused to leave.

It was only until the weather got colder as a result of the rain on the evening of Mar. 28 and on the morning of Mar. 29 that the man was compelled to leave, the witness deduced.

Man was trying to get back with ex-girlfriend: Police

In response to Jiupai's queries, a spokesperson from the local police station explained that the man was kneeling because he wanted to get back with his ex-girlfriend.

According to the spokesperson, the couple split up a few days ago, and the man brought the flowers to seek her forgiveness.

However, when police officers approached the man and tried to persuade him to stop kneeling, he clapped back by asking officers rhetorically whether what he was doing was illegal.

He also asked the police officers to leave him alone.

After the video went viral on Weibo, many users took to the comments section to express their disapproval of the man's behaviour.
