A 54-year-old man was found lying motionless in the living room of his two-room rental HDB flat in Serangoon Avenue 4 on Apr. 17.

By the time he was discovered, the man's body was already in a state of decomposition, reported Shin Min Daily News.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at Block 223A Serangoon Avenue 4 at about 7:30pm on Monday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Piles of hoarded items found inside unit

When Shin Min arrived at the flat, a stench could be detected in the corridor 10m away from the unit.

Hoarded items were seen piled all the way up to the ceiling.

One side of the wall was covered by cupboard boxes and plastic bags entirely.

The police were at the scene for about four hours and were only able to retrieve the man's body after clearing out a path from the piles of items.

According to his neighbour, the deceased man was an introverted and quiet person who rarely left his flat.

"He seldom spoke but would greet others with a smile," the 67-year-old added.
