Liverpool is set to return to Singapore in July 2023, The Straits Times learned.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and new signing Cody Gakpo could feature at the National Stadium as part of the English club's pre-season tour.

The six-time European champions reportedly put on hold their plans for a tour in the United States, and will instead play a friendly tournament in Singapore, ST added.

If Liverpool does come back, it will be the Merseyside club's second consecutive year making a tour stop in Singapore, where it has attracted quite a following.

More than 50,000 spectators showed up at the National Stadium on July 15, 2022 to watch the Reds beat Premier League side Crystal Palace 2-0, to lift the Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy.

This year, Liverpool could be joined in Singapore by Premier League side Tottenham, as well as German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Italian side Roma.

ST also reported that this year's Singapore friendly will not be part of the International Champions Cup, that was last held here in 2019.

Team unlikely to make a second tour stop

Liverpool correspondent David Lynch told Football Insider that the club has reportedly decided not to make a second tour stop this summer.

He added that manager Jurgen Klopp believes that his squad's lengthy travel and commercial commitments during their last pre-season tour cut into valuable training time, and led to injuries this season.

For the upcoming season, Liverpool is expected to start their preparations by training in Europe before heading out to Asia in the third week of pre-season.

According to Football Insider, Klopp previously commented about the passionate support that the club has received in Asia, saying: “The most important thing is to come here and let the people see us, not only on television but live as well."
