Leong Mun Wai, one of the Progress Singapore Party's (PSP) two Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMP), will become the party's Secretary-General.

In an April 4 press release, the party also announced that former People's Action Party member Tan Cheng Bock will serve as party Chairman, while the other NCMP Hazel Poa will serve as Vice-Chairman.

New CEC, new Sec-Gen

Earlier on Mar. 26, PSP announced that it had announced a new party central executive committee (CEC) during its party conference.

The big news was that Francis Yuen, former Secretary-General, would step down from his post.

Yuen, 73, had been appointed as the executive chairman of an overseas publicly listed company. PSP added that his new commitments would make it difficult for him to lead the party.

However, he remains a PSP member.

In a Facebook post, Leong thanked the party for placing its trust in him, and said he looked forward to bringing the party to "greater heights".

In another Facebook post, Yuen said the leadership transition is about "renewal and continuity." He added:

"My warmest congratulations to the newly elected office bearers in the CEC. I am particularly heartened that both Mun Wai and Hazel will take on added responsibilities as Secretary General and Vice Chairman respectively.

Mun Wai takes over the leadership and will spearhead PSP’s drive towards being a Party of Choice. Hazel will be a great asset to Dr Tan assisting him as he continues as Chairman of the Party."

The other CEC members are A’bas bin Kasmani, Harish Pillay, Khoo Poh Tiong Jeffrey, Muhammad Taufik Bin Supan, Phang Yew Huat, Tan Chika and Wendy Low Wei Ling.
