Veteran Hong Kong actor Richard Ng dies at 83

Popular Hong Kong actor Richard Ng passed away at 83 on Sunday, Apr. 9, 2023.

The actor passed away after his heart stopped while he was hospitalised, reported Hong Kong media, HK01.

The news was confirmed by his family members, who rushed to his side after his doctor called for them to say their final farewells.

Ng had several tubes connected to him, and the doctors could not revive him when his heart stopped beating, HK01 reported.

Only 10 per cent of his kidney left functioning

In an interview two years ago, Ng revealed that he had stopped working for two years and only had 10 per cent of his kidney functioning, HK01 reported.

Ng had to undergo kidney dialysis daily, and his daily activities were limited.

He was also advised against a kidney transplant by his doctors.

He lived with his wife and two daughters in Hong Kong.

Famous roles

Over his career, Ng appeared in a total of 80 films.

Most well known for his role in "Five Lucky Stars", his first appearance was in the 1976 Michael Hui comedy film, "The Private Eyes".

He also made his directorial debut in 1979, directing his only movie, "Murder Most Foul".

Ng appeared in "Winners and Sinners" as "Exhaust Pipe" in 1983, before starring in the rest of the "Lucky Stars" films as "Sandy".

He was also nominated twice for Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in "Winners and Sinners" and "Beyond the Sunset".

Richard also starred in Singapore shows, such as "Under One Roof" and "Sayang Sayang", as well as "Brothers 4" alongside Gurmit Singh and Tay Ping Hui.
