Two hikers who went missing in the forests of MacRitchie Nature Trail and Reservoir Park were successfully rescued within three hours.

In a Apr. 11 Facebook post, police shared that they were informed on Apr. 10 at around 5:56pm that a man was lost in the area.

Police officers from the Tanglin Division, as well as the Gurkha Contingent and the Aerial Response Team, were deployed to locate the man.

Officers from the National Parks Board (NParks) and national water agency PUB also assisted in the search.

Stay on trails

NParks advises the public to stay on the designated trails while trekking. Stepping off the trails could increase hikers' chances of getting lost, while also disturbing and trampling on flora and fauna.

Opening hours of 7am to 7pm for Singapore's nature reserves (Central Catchment, Bukit Timah and Sungei Buloh) and parks should also be observed.

Not only are the nature spaces closed to the public at night for their safety, it also allows wildlife to rest, and nocturnal ones to remain undisturbed as they go about their activities.

Members of the public can call the NParks helpline at 1800 471 7300 for "urgent matters".
