Changi Airport has launched an online world, known as the ChangiVerse, on online gaming platform Roblox.

According to a press release by Changi Airport, this is the airport's first foray into the metaverse.

The online world includes multiple games that emulate an experience at the airport such as baggage claim and check-in.

Players will recognise familiar places within ChangiVerse, such as Jewel, Terminal 3 and Airport Boulevard.

The main game, however, is the Changi Kart racing game, where racers with the fastest lap timing each month, from now until September 2023, will win a pair of Economy Class air tickets on Singapore Airlines.

Changi Airport added that Singapore residents will be able to make a round trip to any destination with a direct flight serviced by the airline, while overseas winners will be rewarded with a trip to Singapore and a chance to see "Changi Airport come to life in person".

The press release added that as players progress through the game, they can level up and unlock new areas and items, such as ChangiVerse-exclusive wearables for their digital avatar.

Developed in collaboration with Accenture

The airport added that it had developed the virtual experience in collaboration with Accenture.

Group senior vice president of Changi Airport Group’s enterprise digital ecosystem & business division, Hung Jean, said:

"With ChangiVerse, we want to strengthen Changi Airport’s position as more than just a transport node, but a fun and magical destination where memories are created.

With our customers becoming more digitally savvy and interacting in the digital space, ChangiVerse is also about engaging our customers and serving them better through innovation and experimentation, in line with our belief of customers being at the heart of everything we do."

The press release also noted that Roblox sees a monthly active user base of about 200 million worldwide.
