A video showing an imam's calm reaction to a calico cat that had jumped on him as he was leading prayers in a mosque in Algeria has won over the Internet.

In the two-minute-long Facebook video posted by Sheikh Walid Mehsas on Apr. 5, the imam was seen performing the tarawih at a mosque in Algeria's Bordj Bou Arreridj province when the playful feline made its bold appearance.

The tarawih is a nightly prayer held during the month of Ramadan.

At the 30-second mark, the calico cat was seen peeking in, before slinking over and pawing at the imam's clothes.

The imam continued to lead the congregation in prayer, but the cat was not deterred.

It went on to explore the area very briefly, before proceeding to sit behind the imam, peering up and giving a few "meows".

After receiving no reaction, the cat then jumped up on the imam's chest.

Imam pets cat and continues with worship

Despite the unexpected interruption, the imam remained composed and unruffled.

With his eyes still closed and in prayer, he petted the cat and held the cat gently, allowing it to climb up his shoulders.

The cat then proceeded to settle there for a few seconds, before brushing its tail on the imam's face and appearing to give him a kiss on the lips.

The cat then made its exit, leaping off the imam's shoulders.

The video has since garnered over a million views and 80,000 reacts on Facebook.

In response to the video, many users commended the imam for his warm and kind-hearted response to the unexpected guest.

He was also praised for his composure.
