A 65-year-old man passed away in hospital after colliding with a Go-Ahead Singapore bus at the junction of Pasir Ris Drive 3 and Pasir Ris Central on Apr. 10.

The elderly man, surnamed Chen (hanyu pinyin), was conveyed to the hospital unconscious, the Singapore Police Force told Mothership.

The 45-year-old bus driver is assisting with police investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Passing difficult to accept: Family

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the deceased man's wife said the family found her husband's sudden passing difficult to accept.

"Every day, he would ride a bicycle to work. On Tuesday, I was informed that my husband had been knocked down by a bus. So I woke up my son immediately and went out to find him. After that, we were told that my husband was sent to Changi General Hospital," the 65-year-old recounted.

However, by the time she and her son arrived at the hospital, her husband was in an unconscious state.

The hospital also shared with them that they might need to be mentally prepared for the worst.

Chen subsequently passed away in the hospital in the afternoon.

Previously, Chen's son had already purchased plane tickets for the entire family to travel to Taiwan in October for sightseeing, which would have been the first overseas trip for the family.

'Deeply saddened' by the incident: Go-Ahead Singapore

In response to Mothership's queries, a Go-Ahead Singapore spokesperson said the company is aware of the accident involving bus service 358 and a cyclist on Apr. 10 along Pasir Ris Drive 3.

The interests of the victim’s family are its top priority, and the team is in touch with them to provide support and assistance during this difficult time, the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson also said Go-Ahead Singapore is deeply saddened that this incident took place and vowed to continue cooperating with all relevant authorities in their investigations fully.
