A spokesperson for A&S Transit has implored the public to empathise with the boy who allegedly took one of their buses on a five-hour joyride on April 12 morning.

"He's still young," the spokesperson told Shin Min Daily News.

He also said he hoped that the public would not be too harsh on the boy and cause the boy unwanted distress.

He added that he could not reveal much about the incident due to the ongoing police investigations.

The spokesperson also emphasised that more safety and security precautions will be put in place to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The lack of disclosure of how the bus was allegedly even stolen has seen commenters online making wild guesses about what actually happened.

This was after it was revealed that the boy had covered a distance of over 100km across Tampines, Bedok, Pasir Ris, and Punggol, without any major accident.

The only damage to the bus were visible scratches and dents.

The boy allegedly eventually abandoned the vehicle in Tampines.

Three questions

In the aftermath of the incident, three big questions left people pondering, sparking internet debate, Shin Min reported.

1. How did the boy get into the bus and start the engine?

It would naturally be assumed that if the bus was not in use, it would have been locked with the engine turned off -- unless the bus wasn't locked, and the keys were left inside.

Another person online theorised that the boy's parents might be working for the private bus company, A&S Transit.

Or that the boy might even be the son of the bus operator, making it plausible that he stole his father's bus keys.

2. How did the boy know how to drive the bus?

Many online also pointed out that the boy managed to drive over 100km for five hours but wasn't involved in any accidents.

This was despite his young age and apparent small stature.

Questions were raised as to how he could have stepped on the accelerator and brake and still see where he was going.

There were also questions about whether the bus was automatic or manual transmission.

3. How did no one notice?

Others online also wondered how the boy managed to pull of his stunt unnoticed.

The boy allegedly drove the bus in the morning along busy roads, and managed to emerge relatively unscathed.

He would also have to intentionally drive below speed limits to avoid detection.

The boy would also have to have adequate traffic knowledge, knowing when and where to stop at traffic lights, when to turn given the long bus chassis, and which side of the road to keep to.

Many joked that the boy would have instantly passed his driving test.
