Singaporeans waiting for the keys to their Build-To-Order (BTO) flats will be happy to hear that delayed projects are increasingly becoming a thing of the past.
"We are turning the corner on addressing pandemic-induced delays to our public housing building programme," wrote Minister for National Development Desmond Lee.
This was marked by the fulfilment of the Keat Hong Verge project in March 2023, the first BTO project to be completed sans delays since Singapore's circuit breaker in 2020.
In an Apr. 18 post on Facebook, Lee said that as of the end of March 2023, the Housing Development Board (HDB) had delivered about 63 per cent of the delayed BTO projects.
This amounts to a total of 58 projects over the last two years.
Lee added that this March saw seven projects completed — the highest number in a single month since 2017.
"Much higher than the average of one to two completions a month," Lee said.
Greatearth's delayed projects
The national development minister also gave an update on West Coast Parkview, which was the last of contractor Greatearth's BTO projects.
According to Lee, West Coast Parkview is on track to be delivered in the third quarter of this year.
Greatearth was hit by financial troubles in 2021 before eventually liquidating, causing delays to five public housing projects.
One of the affected projects — Marsiling Grove — was also completed in March 2023.
"It was not easy, but through the concerted efforts of HDB colleagues and contractors, we managed to deliver the project according to committed timelines, without compromising on safety and quality," wrote Lee.
"We are grateful for the patience and understanding of homebuyers as we look to complete all remaining delayed projects in about two years’ time."
