London-based Singaporean actress Anjana Vasan won Best Supporting Actress in this year's Olivier Awards for her role in the West End production of "A Streetcar Named Desire".
The 36-year-old is the first Singaporean to win at the Olivier Awards. Recognised as the highest honour in British theatre, the Olivier Awards are considered equivalent to Broadway's Tony Awards.
"Wasn't a dream"
The award was presented by comedian Liz Carr and comedian and writer Meera Syal, known for her roles in comedy show "Goodness Gracious Me."
Following the announcement on Apr. 2 at London's Royal Albert Hall, Vasan looked "shocked", The Straits Times reported.
During her acceptance speech, the actress thanked her "amma and appa" and told them she loved them.
"I’m going to find a corner and have a lie-down and a cry," she quipped at the end of her speech.
After the ceremony, she posted a photo of her holding the trophy with the caption: "Last night wasn't a dream."
Previous appearances
Anjana Vasan has previously appeared in shows such as "Killing Eve", "Sex Education", "Black Mirror", and "Spider-Man: Far From Home".
She was also nominated for the prestigious British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) in 2022 for her role in British television series "We are Lady Parts".
