A man working for a company in Shenzhen, China apparently won 365 days of paid leave during an annual dinner hosted by his employer on Sunday, April 9.
The odds of winning it were apparently miniscule -- but not impossible, it was revealed.
What happened
A video of him holding a huge cheque cardboard cutout had the words “365 days of paid leave” printed on it.
The man reportedly held a managerial position at the time of his win.
A video of the moment has been put up on Weibo with a brief description of what happened.
The mechanics of the win was explained in the post and by Chinese media.
Apparently, a lucky draw was held as a way for employees to de-stress, and also given that the company’s annual dinner had not been held for three years.
Only one grand prize was set up, which was the annual paid vacation prize, while all the other awards were relatively small.
A woman narrating the events in the video could be heard explaining that the company will extend the option to the winner to encash his paid leave or utilise them, it was reported.
And the win was so shocking it was hard to believe.
The winner repeatedly questioned if the prize was real and that the boss was just as shocked that the prize was eventually won by someone, the woman explained.
Media in China reported that the man's role in the company requires him to travel.
Commenters quipped that the man could be replaced if he did not show up for one year, while others suggested encashing just half of the 365 days to enjoy the best of both worlds.
