A male Certis auxiliary police officer was severely injured after a road traffic incident at Tuas Checkpoint on Mar. 24, 2023.

Car was driving at high speed during collision

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in its press release that the incident happened at about 12:55am.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership that the incident was near 501 Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim.

Based on its preliminary investigations, the driver of the Singapore-registered car was driving at "high speed" before it collided with the officer.

At that time, the officer was stationed outside the observation post at the entry of the departure car zone at Tuas Checkpoint.

SCDF and traffic police were activated to the scene immediately.

Incident blocked all three lanes

In photos shared by one person on Facebook, two police vehicles and a tow truck could be seen at the entrance of Tuas Checkpoint.

The user commented at 2:44am that commuters had to use the lorry lane at Tuas Checkpoint as the car and motorcycle lanes were closed.

According to ICA's Facebook post at 3am on Mar. 24, the traffic incident occurred along all lanes leading towards the car and motorcycle zones at the Tuas Checkpoint's departure point.

The incident caused a blockage on all three lanes, ICA wrote in the now-deleted post.

In a subsequent post at 5:35am on the same day, ICA wrote that the "accident site" has been cleared and all lanes leading into Tuas Checkpoint have become operational.

ICA: Officer found with severe head injury "at this point"

The officer and the driver were conveyed to the National University Hospital, where he was "assessed to have sustained severe head injury at this point", ICA said.

ICA and Certis are in contact with the officer's family and are providing the "necessary support and assistance".

Police investigations on the driver are currently ongoing.

Certis: Officer undergoing "emergency surgery"

Certis issued a Facebook post at 9:56am and said they were "deeply saddened by the accident involving one of our auxiliary police afficers at Tuas Checkpoint this morning".

"Representatives from Certis management are currently with family members at the hospital as our officer undergoes emergency surgery," Certis added.

Additional resources have also been deployed at Tuas Checkpoint to ensure that other officers affected by the accident receive full psychological support.

Certis said it is assisting the authorities in the investigations.

It urged the public to rally behind the injured officer, his family, and fellow security personnel during this time.
