A high-speed chase involving a motorcyclist and stealth Traffic Police officers ended when the motorcyclist crashed into a traffic light, abandoned his bike, and took off on foot, before being arrested.

Traffic Police officers had to get off their motorcycles to give chase.

Footage of the incident was captured on the dashboard camera of a vehicle at the scene at that time.

What video showed

At the beginning of the video, four motorcyclists were seen at a traffic junction, including a stealth Traffic Police officer.

The Traffic Police officer was initially seen standing on the road, presumably getting one of the motorcyclists to pull over for checks.

However, when the traffic light turned green, it appeared that the motorcyclist did not pull over.

Responding to Mothership's queries, the police said the incident occurred on Mar. 29 at about 11:55pm.

A Traffic Police officer was riding along Geylang Road when he signalled for a motorcycle to stop for vehicular checks.

The man refused to comply with the officer’s instructions and sped off.

In the ensuing pursuit, the motorcyclist purportedly collided with a traffic light and then fled on foot along Lorong 22 Geylang, the police said.

The man was subsequently detained along Lorong 24 Geylang.

The motorcyclist was seen in the video slamming into a traffic light, ditching his vehicle, and running away.

A Traffic Police officer chased after him on foot, as another officer on a motorcycle arrived at the scene.

An eyewitness told Shin Min Daily News that he had witnessed the pursuit, and saw a motorcycle riding fast towards Kallang from the junction of Geylang Road and Paya Lebar Road.

He mentioned that after the man was caught, the police found "a knife the length of a palm" on him.

The man was subsequently arrested for possession of offensive weapon and several other traffic-related offences.

He was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
