A newly-wed man in Singapore who lost his wife in a fatal collision along Tampines Expressway (TPE), is appealing to the public for footage of the incident.

What happened

Muhammad Zahid Abdul Gaffar, 30, was sending his wife, 26-year-old Yasmin Abdullah, to work on the morning of Feb. 20, 2023.

Mothership previously reported that the pair had tied the knot three weeks prior to the incident.

Yasmin was riding pillion on Zahid's motorcycle when the couple met with a collision involving another motorcycle and a minibus.

Zahid was conscious and Yasmin was unconscious when they were conveyed to Changi General Hospital.

She succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the hospital.

Yasmin was buried at Pusara Aman cemetery on Feb. 21, based on the social media updates from fellow motorcycle riders and those close to the couple.

The male minibus driver, 54, was arrested for careless driving causing death, while the other male motorcyclist, 31, is also assisting in ongoing police investigations.

Appealing to public for footage

On Mar. 1, Zahid wrote a publicly viewable Facebook post, appealing to the public with footage of the incident to come forward and send it to him privately.

He expressed a preference for video footage taken by a car's dashcam or other vehicles.

Speaking to Mothership, Zahid, who recently turned 30, shared that he is currently still warded in the hospital.

He is seriously injured and has undergone surgeries for his spine and shoulder, and has further procedures pending.

According to his friend, Zahid's injuries are as follows:

• Fractures on the T3-T5 vertebrae on his upper spine;
• Fractured left forearm and left shoulder blade;
• Bruised right shoulder; and
• Multiple cuts on his abdominal and right forearm.

He is also waiting for a skin graft and has started physiotherapy.

Fundraiser for Zahid

On Mar. 2, five individuals – Roshoshanna Tang, Leonard Chiang, Tung Wei Xiong, Koh Chen Pin and Kayden Hong – walked 3km around the 100Plus Promenade at the National Stadium whilst on their hands, as reported by The Straits Times.

They were raising funds for Zahid and Shamel Pilapitiya, a 17-month-old toddler who is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, and their goal is to raise S$30,000, according to their Go Get Funding campaign that is currently ongoing.

Tang is the organiser of the fundraiser, while Zahid shared that Chiang and Koh are his old friends.
