Thow Yen Seafood, a coffee shop zi char stall in Siglap at 936 East Coast Road, will be closing down come April 2023.

Word of its impending closure got out on March 18, via a post by a regular customer who patronises the stall.

According to the post, the stall operator announced that she will be moving back to Malaysia after folding.

Thow Yen Seafood has been operating in Siglap for about a decade.

The reason, as relayed by the customer, is due to "massive rent increases": "Anne announced today that due to massive rent increases she will be closing down for good, in April, and moving back to Malaysia. Truly a sad day in Singapore hawker cuisine and Siglap food."

In response to queries, Thow Yen confirmed it is closing down soon.

In the comments section of the post, the customer also shared that another stall that sells pizza at the same coffee shop is also closing due to a rent hike.

This was in response to another commenter who said the rental for that stall was up S$1,000 a month.
