If you believe you know everything about sex, sexual health, and relationships, you do not need to continue reading on.

However, if you ever find yourself pondering questions surrounding these topics, there will soon be one more platform which may answer some of your queries and, specifically, through a Southeast Asian lens — Talkaboutsex.

Spearheaded by a group of ASEAN Youth Fellows, the new online platform aims to provide a safe space for women in the region to safely discuss topics surrounding sex, sexual health, and relationships, according to the press release.

At the same time, it will also offer users trustworthy information on the areas above from healthcare and other professionals.

Ultimately, through the project, the founder, Hamidah Aidillah, and her team hope to dismantle cultural stereotypes and address the emotional, social, and psycho-social issues so as to empower women to make informed decisions that will help them strengthen their relations with their partners or spouses.

Official launch event

To celebrate the launch of the platform, Hamidah and her team will be hosting an event titled "Let's talk about fostering positive sexual relations: the whys & hows" on Mar. 18 at *SCAPE.

The event will be held in collaboration with The Whitehatters, a non-governmental organisation that focuses on community development, especially on issues that underpin the state of social cohesion in Singapore.

According to the press release, the event will consist of a panel discussion on fostering healthy sexual relations, a Q&A session, and a small group discussion which will be reserved for women only.

The panellists comprise Andrea Tan, a certified VITA™ coach on sex, love, and relationship, as well as Ida Ismail-Pratt, an OBGYN specialist and medical director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Centre at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.

Some of the questions they may be touching upon during the panel discussion include:

  • What does a healthy sexual relationship look like?
  • What encompasses a happy and fulfilling long-term partnership?
  • How can one be a better lover, in and out of the bedroom?
  • Does performing certain exercises really lead to better sex?
  • How can men and women protect themselves better against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)?
  • If I was diagnosed with an STI in the past, do I still have it now?

The ensuing small group discussion will be led by Shahrany Hassan, the founder and director of The Whitehatters.

If you are keen to attend the event, you can register here, as attendance is strictly by registration only.

However, do note that only participants above 18 will be allowed to participate in the event due to the nature of the discussion topics.
