Since its premier in December 2021, "Single's Inferno" has been a hit with not only South Koreans, but its global Netflix audience.

The show's concept is simple.

Let loose a bunch of attractive people on a deserted island, slap some cameras and mics on them, wait for them to pair up.

Couples can go live in "paradise" while those unattached are left in "hell".

Kind of like trying to buy a HDB flat in Singapore before age 35.

Heaven and hell 2.0

The iconic beach ("inferno") featured in previous seasons is Saseungbong-do—one of South Korea's officially registered uninhabited islands, while the luxurious "paradise" scenes were shot in Paradise Hotel and Resort in Paradise City.

"Single's Inferno 3", according to Netflix, "promises even more heat, as the rules and the hellish island itself will be getting a makeover".

Netflix’s unscripted lead for Korea Yoo Ki Hwan has teased that the locations for paradise and hell will be completely changed.

“Especially when it comes to ‘Paradise’—it won’t just be a luxurious resort, but more of a special and intimate place where the couples have a chance to dive deeper into each other's emotions, elevating the romance.”

Open casting call

If the "hottest hell in the world" sounds like your thing, Netflix has put up an application form in its Instagram bio.

The form asks for basic information like your name, birth date, gender, occupation, contact and location, as well as your social media profiles and relationship status.

If you, like season 2's Kim Jin-young, have participated in any other shows, that has to be disclosed.

Unexpected demography

Non-South Korean citizens are also welcome on "Single's Inferno", as evident from past contestants like Nadine Lee, who hails from Boston.

Rumour has it that she has referred one of her American pals to the producers, who were eager to have him onboard for the third chapter.

"Reddit user brgrantjr posted in a subreddit for 'news, culture, and life on the Korean Peninsula', asking if a foreigner cast in a Korean reality TV series would be a trap," reported Koreaboo.

The user wrote, "So, a friend of mine from college was in a reality dating show that’s big over in South Korea. They’re currently casting for the upcoming season, and she referred me after a producer had reached out and asked for recommendations."

brgrantjr was worried producers would reject him for his race and sexual orientation.

"At first I thought it was bizarre bc I’m literally the diametrical opposite of everyone that has been on that show before: a white guy from LA who speaks Korean conversationally. Plus, I’m gay.

These should’ve been red flags for the producers, but they just got even more excited. They told me they really liked my overall appearance and that the third season is going to be their biggest yet and a shakeup was in order. Everyone kept telling me not to worry about my lack of fluency (even my friend who was on the show wasn’t)."

He later confirmed his appearance on the show.
