S’pore man gets laid off from job, fills tote bag up with pantry snacks during ‘final office snack run’

Being laid off from your job could be devastating, but a Singaporean man decided to take the chance to do something before he left his post.

On Mar. 22, jobs portal Indeed announced that they would be cutting around 2,200 jobs globally, Reuters reported.

As a result, over 120 employees from the company Singapore’s office have been laid off, according to The Business Times.

Larry Lee, a former software engineer at Indeed, was among one of them.

Last day of work

On Mar. 23, Lee first posted a TikTok under the username @sotravel.me of him telling his mother that he had been laid off from Indeed.

In response to a comment that expressed concern for him, he later on posted another video that documented of his “final office snack run”.

Showing a clip of the office’s pantry filled with snacks like Hello Panda and Meiji Yan Yan Biscuit, Lee can be seen dropping them into his black tote bag while "trying not to be suspicious".

His snack haul included instant noodles, chips, chocolates and Pocky.

"Should've taken more"

As of time of writing, Lee's TikTok video has garnered more than 8,000 likes and 169,000 views.

Commenters chimed in, mostly saying that he should have taken more snacks from the pantry.

One commenter even wrote that Lee should have taken his office chair and table with him when he left.

Passion project

Lee also announced his layoff via a LinkedIn post.

Expressing optimism, he wrote that he would use this opportunity to pursue his “passion project” and travel community Sotravel, which he co-founded during his university days.
