A Singaporean man who went on holiday to Bangkok, Thailand with nine others, suffered a heart attack on the first day of his holiday and passed away.

The tragedy was reported by Shin Min Daily News.

According to the Chinese media, the man, surnamed Wu, who was a car technician, went to Thailand on Feb. 27 for his four-day, three-night trip with friends.

He had organised similar trips before the pandemic.

But Wu suffered a heart attack shortly after touching down.

The late man's wife, Madam Wu, told Shin Min: "According to a friend, the group got off the plane and were going to have dinner."

"My husband said at that time he felt pain in his chest. After the meal, on the way back to the hotel, he suddenly had a heart attack and fell to the ground."

"One friend immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and called for an ambulance."

Informed personally

Madam Wu was informed about the tragedy by the daughter of her late husband's friend, who showed up at the door at night with the bad news.

The widow told Shin Min she could not believe it at first.

Madam Wu then notified her sister and daughters, and booked one-way tickets to Thailand.

Madam Wu said she received help from the embassy when in Thailand, ​​but her husband's insurance company said it would take a few days to arrange for the body to be transported back to Singapore.

Not wanting to delay any longer, she paid for arrangements to send her late husband back home.

Madam Wu said: "I couldn't wait, so I decided to take my husband's body home at my own expense. Whether the insurance company will pay for it, we shall see."

The widow also said she was told medical personnel in Thailand carried out CPR on her late husband on the way to the hospital.

No sign of health problems

Madam Wu said her late husband was the breadwinner of the family.

The couple have three daughters, the youngest is still schooling, and the eldest daughter is pregnant.

Madam Wu said: "My husband was very excited about the prospect of being a grandfather. He had planned to sell his car next year, buy a seven-seater, and take his grandson out for a ride."

Madam Wu also said her husband loved sports.

There is a swimming pool opposite their home, and he swims 10 laps every morning, she said.

She added: "Except for some thyroid problems that required medication, my husband has no health issues."

She also said her late husband did not say he was unwell before the trip.

The doctor in Thailand told Madam Wu her late husband was in good health, but suffered an unexpected heart attack.
