After closing for renovations in August 2019, Shaw Theatres Balestier will be opening its doors to the public again on Mar. 30, 2023.

The long-awaited return of the uniquely designed revamped theatre is home to 11 halls, making it the cinema with the most number of premium halls at a single venue in Singapore.

The theatre will also be giving out free movie tickets and snacks for the first three days of opening from Mar. 27 to 30.

Elevated cinema experience

With an extremely rich history dating back to the 1940s, the newly revamped Shaw Theatres Balestier pays tribute to the heritage district it is located in with its unique design.

Grills, red bricks and particle boards decorate the cinema hallway to recreate the feeling of taking a stroll along Balestier Road.

"We have a strong relationship and association with the Balestier neighbourhood, so we took inspiration from elements of its heritage and culture such as the industrial background, the old shophouses and the diverse architectural buildings,” Mark Shaw, the director of Shaw Organisation Group of Companies said.

Premium movie halls to elevate your movie-watching experience

In total, there are six regular halls, four Lumiere halls and one Dreamers hall.

The Lumiere halls will feature luxurious and spacious Figueras seating that can be reclined by 42 degrees.

They also come with an ergonomically shaped backrest cushion, a generously sized turntable and USB charging ports.

Lumiere halls are also equipped with the latest DTS:X sound system to provide an all-rounded soundscape.

Dreamers hall will open at a later date but will offer a conducive movie-going environment for children.

The halls are equipped with reduced volume, soft lighting, and lowered contrast between projection and ambient light to make it more child-friendly.

There will also be an open play space for little ones to play.

850 pairs of free movie tickets for giveaway

Shaw Theatres Balestier will be giving out a total of 850 pairs of free movie tickets from Mar. 27 to 29 before its official opening on Mar. 30.

Movie titles include "DC League of Superpets", "Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder", "Bullet Train", "Lyle Lyle Crocodile", "Elvis", "Ticket to Paradise", "Disney’s Encanto", "Smile", "The Bad Guys", "The King’s Man", "Kisaragi Station", and "Wolf Pack".

Here's how you can get your free movie tickets.

Mar.27-28:

• Giveaway of 350 pairs of movie tickets for the first 350 patrons each day.
• Queue starts at 10am at box office.
• Each patron is entitled to only one pair of free movie tickets.
• Promotion valid only for movie screenings on the same day from 11am to 830pm in all theatres except for Dreamers.

Mar. 29:

• Giveaway of 150 pairs of movie tickets.
• Queue starts at 10am at box office.
• Each patron is entitled to only one pair of free movie tickets.
• Promotion valid only for movie screenings on the same day from 11am to 3pm in all theatres except for Dreamers.

Shaw Theatres Balestier will also be having an opening promotion from Mar. 30:
