US-based S'porean director Pearry Reginald Teo dies aged 44

Singaporean-born director Pearry Reginald Teo, best known for directing "The Gene Generation" starring Bai Ling, passed away on Mar. 9, 2023.

He was 44 years old.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Teo died of an unknown cause in his home in North Hollywood, according to his management agent Italia Gandolfo.

Teo's works included rapper DMX's final movie, "Fast Vengeance", and horror films "Necromentia" and "The Assent", starring Tatum O'Neal.

The independent filmmaker's first short film, "Liberata Me" screened at the Cannes Film Festival and won multiple awards at various film festivals.

Teo was born in Singapore on Jul. 23, 1978 and moved to Australia when he was 14.

He returned to Singapore to serve his national service before moving to the United States in 2001 to pursue his directing career.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is survived by his son Ashton, two sisters, and his parents.
